TAYLAN: TIPPING THE SCALES
19 years ago Taylan was abandoned as a baby due do him being a half elf and having the strange talent of turning his hands into claws. He was abandoned at a travelling circus called Romboni’s Circus, and grew up with them performing. The only thing he had with him as a baby was a small white talisman in the shape of a dragon.
The circus master, Romboni Vinici, was cruel and would not pay us a wage. Taylan was beaten, starved and kept in a cage.
When he reached 18, the circus came to Korvosa and performed for the King ( whio was not well at the time) and Queen (whose beauty was unpaarelled) at the palace, but the circus master had decided Taylan was no longer useful and when the circus reached Korvosva, he was left behind. This might have also had something to do with Taylan getting someone pregnant (the contortionist Ronay Delayhoi) in the circus troops.
Taylan would make money by performing on the streets. One day he was approached by Gaedran Lamm who offered him a contract to perform for wealthy types in questionable establishments.
After a number of months, he realised Gaedran was just using him like the old circus master. In fact if anything he was more cruel, initially using Taylan to distract people while some of Gaedran’s Lamms stole things. But then forcing Taylan to manifest his claws so that dragon scales could be collected which was very painful. Taylan ran away, and now lives on the streets of Old Korvosa, sleeping in alleyways/abandoned buildings and performing where he can to try and get a meal or possibly even some coins. But this can be dangerous so, he is careful , trying to avoid the eye of the guards and also Gaedran.
The only person who has shown Taylan any real kindness is an old Sage called Master Roshi who lives in North Point In Korvosa. Master Roshi is genuinely kind, and Taylan views him as a sort of adopted grandfather. Because of his influence and his introduction to the faith, Taylan is lawful-neutral and worships Apsu, the good dragon. The one thing that Taylan prays for, is to discover who he is and who his parents may be.
