SHIV: THE BIRTH OF A MONSTER
When Lamm discovered that Trevor was taking drugs, he saw an opportunity. Trevor was always this kind, caring, optimistic individual at the orphanage who did everything he could to stop confrontation happening in that building. Lamm thought that was a waste. Here was a brute of a half-orc who potentially could do wonders for him, but he needed to be ‘pushed’ in the right direction. So, Lamm kept feeding Trevor and his companion, Benny the halfling, drugs. But not the usual drugs they had been taking. No, something else-‘Shiver’. Shiver drugs imported from the jungles of the Mwangi expanse, were insanely strong and nasty. As soon as you took them, it was like Serenrae’s light had exploded in every fibre of your body. At first it was wonderful, it felt like you were bathing in the light of a god. It filled every fibre of your soul. But then the experience would change. The light of Euphoria would vanish, and a darkness deeper than night would descend into every pit of one’s body.
As these dark and violent images would swirl around Trevor’s mind, Lamm got his boys to ‘go to work’ on the half-orc. They would sneer and jeer at Trevor, push and pull him, punch and kick him. Even cut his flesh. They would call him weak, call him a loser, a thing of pity. Night after night, when Trevor would take these drugs, the abuse would come. Of course, Trevor didn’t know he was being abused, all he knew that his dreams and visions were dark and terrible. He didn’t see what Lamm’s boys were doing. He just saw in his dreams that the world was full of hate and violence. It was a world where everyone and everything was out to get him, to put him down, to ridicule him, to make him feel worthless. Everything and everyone were a threat. But the tipping point came when in his drugged state, he saw Benny. Benny his best friend, the funny little halfling that he loved and made him laugh like no one else, one night told him he wanted nothing to do with him. That the half-orc made him sick. That Trevor was neither human, nor orc. A disgrace to his race,That he was embarrassed that he even knew him. That he’d rather die than be in his company. That even his mother abandoned him because of he was a pathetic piece of shit. Benni spat at him, threw stuff at him, and told Trevor it probably best that he kill himself. It was awful, beyond awful. Trevors world fell apart. Benny’s ‘betrayal’ was like a death. Rage filled Trevor’s mind. Rage, rage, rage like he had never experienced before. He wasn’t going to take this anymore. He was sick of everyone making him feel like nothing. Well, he wasn’t nothing. He was strong, he was powerful, he was mighty! If the bastards came at him again, he’d take them on-every single last one of them including that fucking little halfling. He was ready to fight! And by God, what a fight he’d put up. A fight the likes of which the world would forget! He’d rip and tear, slaughter and butcher, mutilate and rout, maim and murder, decimate and massacre everything and everyone in his sight. The world may be out to get him, but he’d destroy it first. Oh yes, he would. He would annihilate all before him! And so, Trevor slowly disappeared into the void and out of that dark, dark abyyss, a monster was born -Shiv. A chaotic evil creature that viewed everything and everyone in the world as a threat.
When Lamm first saw Shiv, he cried. This was the monster he’d been dreaming of. No-one would stop him now. And so, Lamm ‘fed’ Shiv on a diet of rage and hate, carnage and bloodshed. Making the half-orc believe that Lamm’s threats were Shiv’s threats. It was a ‘perfect union’ for them enact ‘vengeance’ And so Lamm prospered in fear as Shiv ‘gorged’.
But Lamm soon realised that Shiv was limited in his existence. He only appeared when he raged. Which wasn’t long enough as far as Lamm was concerned. And as time went on, annoyingly for Lamm, one day Trevor quit the drugs (probably to do with the death of his weak-ass friend, Benny the Halfling) and then became an advocate for peace (for fuck sake!) which meant Shiv would be out of service for a while. But Lamm could wait, he could be patient. He just needed to wait for the right time and the right place and a method to permanently make Trevor into Shiv. Yeh, he could wait. He had all the time in the world.
But he isn’t the only one thinking that. Because Shiv, finds it strange that he is constantly ‘waking’ up in different locations. And every time he does wake, someone else is trying to hurt him, trying to kill him and whilst he deals with the threat/threats in front of him, in the back of his mind he is looking for a way to ‘stop falling asleep’….
